Wilmington’s own Port City Java has announced the permanent closure of one of its several Downtown locations –– the store located at 300 North Front Street officially closed on Thursday afternoon.
An announcement was made on the chain’s social media sites without much notice:
“At 3pm today, the 300 North Front Street cafe will be closing permanently. We hope to continue serving guests at our other downtown locations: 21A North Front Street and 502 North Front Street (in CFCC’s Union Station). Thank you for your continued support!”
Port City Java began in 1995 in Wilmington and has grown across the region and even has a location in Washington DC, according to the company’s website.
There are still two locations in Downtown Wilmington within walking distance of the previous location, neither of the two locations are closing.
There are more than a dozen Port City Java locations throughout the Cape Fear region including locations in Leland and Hampstead.
When asked why the store was closing the official Port City Java account responded on Facebook saying, “We decided that three cafes within a few blocks of each other in the downtown area became a lot to support. We look forward to growing in the future and hope you’ll visit our other cafes.”
