For the third time this week, biology freshman Isabella Hillner visited Jaguar Java between classes to order her usual chocolate chip frappuccino.
“I’ve been here everyday this week ordering the same drink between classes and I’d much rather grab a snack here because of how calm it is compared to the cafeteria,” Hillner said. “I think it has a really good impact on the student body, especially the morning commuters.”
Since the start of the term, business has increased at Jaguar Java, the new coffee shop located on the first floor of the newly opened STEM building. Lines in the mornings range from 10 to 15 students long.
“The mornings are getting busier and busier with each day,” said Jaguar Java employee, Belinda Prado. “It’s nice to see the kids come by and line up for this place.”
Jaguar Java moved from a small coffee station in the game room of the Central Academic Building to a larger space in the STEM building.
Daniel Garza, director of procurement Services, said Jaguar Java’s new presence is a collaboration between Chartwells Schools Dining Services and Student Business Affairs. Both aim to continue providing alternative eating options for the growing student population.
Students can order salads, fruit, vegetables, various juice-based beverages and an assortment of different types of coffee with many add-ons. Beverages are made using Starbucks products, moderately priced between $3 to $6.
“I think it’s really great that we have this shop here now,” said sophomore interdisciplinary studies student Sydney Vanderlinden. “I’ll definitely keep coming back considering the price and selection. It’s affordable, it’s here and it’s good.”
When Prado was asked if she was excited about the future of the shop, she gave a tremendous smile and answered with a simple “yes.”
Jaguar Java’s hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays. The shop is closed on weekends.
